Your Rogue Reviewer

Hey everyone! As promised, I am working through American Gods, while simultaneously listening to Jim Butcher's Storm Front. In the meantime, I thought you may like to know a bit more about me. 
I am a lifetime book lover, which I'm sure is unsurprising, given the fact that I'm working on a book blog. 
I'm a big fan of young adult novels, historical fiction and romance, fiction, sci fi and fantasy and I have just started getting into memoirs. These will be the most common genres featured on the blog. You will notice some of the stuff I review is quite old (case in point, American Gods) but I have never read them, so you'll be getting my take. 
I chose to be the Rogue Reviewer because I very often disagree with reviews- I will adore books that people hate, and hate books that win literary awards. It happens. The same is true of movies I review. 
I will also occasionally have some featured reviews from some of my favourite readers, especially those that read outside of my usual genres. Variety is the spice of life!
On a more personal level, I am a millennial in the publishing program at Ryerson. I could write my own books but that has never appealed to me as much as taking someone's labour of love and helping them spin it into a work of art. So that was a long way to say I am aiming to be a substantive editor or an acquisitions editor. I'll take both, I'm not picky!

Chain of Gold - Cassandra Clare

Chain of Gold - Cassandra Clare 3.5/5 I have not read anything by Cassandra Clare since The Mortal Instruments series which I read many, many years ago. I didn't read The Infernal Devices or The Dark Artifices series, though I did read The Red Scrolls of Magic recently which I absolutely loved. I was in school, and getting my life started when they came out and I just didn't have time time or money to devote to new series. So to say I am no longer overly familiar with her writing style would be an understatement. I am still familiar with the general world of the Shadowhunters as I am a huge fan of the Netflix show, even though I do recall that the show deviated a great deal from the books after a while. Overall, I liked the book. I liked the plot, the diverse cast of characters and familiar last names like Herondale, Fairchild, and Lightwood. The Wedding Date Disaster - Avery Flynn

  The Wedding Date Disaster – Avery Flynn 5/5                   It is super rare that books get a full 5/5 rating but I discovered Avery Flynn when her novel Parental Guidance came out and I’ve been hooked since. Buyer be aware – they are short. I can read the books in their entirety in about three hours. I once read three of her books in the same day because I was hooked on the Hartigans. Also, all of her books seem to come in trilogies, but most of her back catalog seems to also be loosely related. In this case, Hadley’s roommate Fionna is a Hartigan so it ties into the Hartigans series that I mentioned reading all of in one sitting before. As far as I have found, all of the characters through the book live in the fictional Harbor City, somewhere on the East Coast.
